I had a chance to take the Tt eSPORTS MEKA G Unit keyboard for a spin the last few days. I was always a little apprehensive about changing my keyboards and mouse around. I get very used to what I have been using and changing these two items always seems to take me some time to get used to. I have been using a older G-15 keyboard and a very old Logitech wireless mouse which is getting close to its last days. But they fit me like a glove so I keep using them.

So when the package came with this new keyboard I had to actually just look at it for a few days, picking it up, feeling the keys and just checking it out and thinking to myself… ok I am going to have to actually plug this in and see what it does LOL.

So here is a few pictures of this keyboard before I get started.

The box is very nice and colorful, I like the black and red color schemes with fire in the back ground. Hopefully that doesn’t mean it will burn up when I plug it in

From the manufactures website here are a few other pictures showing the full package and better pictures then I could get here at home.

Everything you need here as usual and a few other nice additions which include a nice carrying case to protect the keyboard which is nice for taking this to LAN parties and other events. It looks like it fits very well into the Tt eSPORTS Battle Dragon Bag.

And here is a close up of the keyboard itself.

I was surprised to find that the key layout was very close to my older G-15 so I thought this might work out very well.

For a real detailed list of all features which are many take a look at the website for this keyboard.

Tt eSPORTS MEKA G Unit keyboard

Feature Overview

It’s all about the Keys !

Coming from a keyboard that uses rubber dome switches which looks like this I was unsure if I would like the new feel of the keys.

The Tt eSPORTS MEKA G Unit keyboard uses Cherry Black Mechanical Switches seen here.

I found the feel of the keys to be very nice and precise compared to the rubber dome switches, but with a few things that took me a little bit to get used to. They make more noise then rubber dome switches and I found that if I held my finger on a key with about half pressure it would auto repeat faster then the rubber dome switches I was used to. This was not really a problem for me, I just had to change up the way I pressed the keys.

Light up the right keys

Next thing that caught my eye was the illuminated keys. Seems rather simple thing really but they did not go over board with this. One of the things I usually have a problem with is the WASD keys, I always have to look at where I am placing my fingers at for these and I often just remap to the arrow keys because its easier for me. On this keyboard the WASD keys light up and for me it makes it much easier to find them in the heat of a battle.

Included Software & Graphical User Setup

The software that comes with this keyboard has a ton of options and huge Macro Key layout system. From normal mode which allows the use of Keys T1 to T12 on the left side of the keyboard, to Game mode which uses the same T1 to T12 as Normal mode but adds the ability to use T13 to T20 allow users to program any key on the standard keyboard section as a Macro key. You must click on the selected key to begin the set up procedure.

I did find a lack of profiles for games preloaded to be a little lacking as it would have been a great way to just jump into this with out having to program macros yourself from the start.

For more detail on software provided check out the User’s Interface Setup Guide.

User’s Interface Setup Guide

In Conclusion

I have really only used this to play STAR WARS: The Old Republic, World of Tanks and just general use on the desktop so far and found getting over my apprehension of changing out keyboards to be rather smooth and painless. This board has plenty of nice features. A much expanded layout for macro keys and the ability to assign macros to any keys in game mode. The keyboard has a good solid feel to it and keys respond with nice precision.

Thanks for reading !

My older SS Phase unit has been having a hard time keeping up with new CPU’s. It really was meant to be run in a 24/7 config but over time I moved away from that and it ended up as a benching unit.

This was installed in a TJ07 and it worked very well.

The top unit was a chiller. It was never really used and had been taken out and sold long time ago. Running chilled sub zero fluid in a 24/7 rig just has to many issues so it was scrapped. The bottom was the unit to cool CPU’s.

Old picture of this sitting next to the main rig. The long suction line snaked around through the back side then into the main rig.

When this was all cleaned up it ran a QX9770 @ 4.8ghz 24/7. It was super nice having all that power at the click of a button

But over time all the extra heat, noise and power usage was just a bit to much so I went back to air cooling for this.

It was used for a long time as a benching unit and this is pretty typical of a setup.

Then another short period back on the main rig which seems to change every few months LOL.

This is the actual CPU SS Phase that Jinu built for me long ago

But for benching this unit was having a hard time keeping up with new CPU’s. If I remember correct it was tuned for 270watts which just wasn’t cutting it anymore.

So I decided to start collecting what I needed to actually build my own.

Manifold

Vacuum pump

I picked up a Copland Condensing Sled pretty cheap on eBay which would be the heart of the unit. The comp was a 220v unit so I could not use that and it will need to be swapped out. It really was an impulse buy and if I had hunted around more I could have found a sled with a 110v comp. Oh well

Next thing I would need is a load tester for tuning so I gathered up what I needed for that and built my own.

This is 2x 200watt heater cores fitted into a block of copper for a max load of 400watts.

It also has a thermal cut off switch at the end to protect it incase I forget to turn it off when finished. I have heard to many stories of people forgetting to turn off the load tester when finished and bench tables catching of fire so I wanted to avoid that if possible

Thanks to Ron @ Under The Ice for all his help with that

This is what I would use to adjust the load.

And here it is being tested. Yeah it worked ! LOL

So the Phase unit I had been using through all this was not doing very well these days. 270watt load and it was dropping it down from –50c unloaded to –3.6c. Not very good

The evap that was used on this unit was rather small, but interesting. I think it did pretty well for normal usage but started to tank when the loads started to get heavy.

I ended up getting a 42mm stepper evap from Piotres. It’s pretty hard to find nice evaps in the US so this baby came all the way from poland. This is it nect to a standard Chilly1 that is used by many because its easy to get and cheap. But I wanted something more so I went with Piotres.

I picked up a tank of R507 and a few other odd’s and end’s and finally decided to get some kind of a start on this.

Instead of buying more and more parts and this beast was becoming a money sink I decided I would mod the phase unit I had which was not much use anymore.

First I removed the 220v comp from the Copland Condensing Sled. Pulled out the old comp and cut off the small condenser and quickly found I will need to drill new mounting holes into the sled to mount the compressor.

The old unit still had usable parts like the long suction line and an accumulator. After looking at the size of the old accumulator I might need to remake this, but I will use it for now and see how it holds up. Accumulators are used to allow liquid refrigerant to pool before it enters the compressor which is not a good thing to happen. This is needed because so we can put a higher charge of refrigerant so the unit can hold higher loads. That’s the idea anyway, some use it and others do not.

Here you can see the size difference between the old evap vs the new one from Piotres. The new one has much more mass to be able to absorb the heat from the CPU.

Many ideas go back and forth about evap design, everything from complex maze designs like these, or simple steppers to hand made ones.

Soddemfx’s dual cap tube stepper design

Cryostar

and others

This what the insides of the one I picked up from Piotres looks like. Pretty simple but it has lots of mass

The next thing that really effects the load handling ability of these units is the Condenser. This is what cools the hot gas that comes from the evap after it has absorbed the heat from the CPU. It must then change state from a gas back to a liquid and then feed back into the evap.

You can see the size difference between the old condenser vs the new one here.

What I have left to get before I can go further is nitrogen purging gas, some copper tube and a few other odd’s & end’s, braze this up and then to tune it.

Thanks for reading so far and I will update this as it progresses
